Nikolay Lugansky Triumphs in Paris: A Five-Star Review

After a triumphant last season, Lugansky returned to Paris with a program that was highly praised in a five-star review on Bachtrack.

In a recent concert review by Alain Lompech, Nikolay Lugansky’s performance in Paris was highly praised. Lugansky, who triumphed last season with his nearly complete piano music of Sergei Rachmaninov, has returned with a program that daringly devoted its entire second half to transcriptions of Wagner’s The Ring Cycle. According to Lompech, Lugansky’s playing was marked by its exquisite delicacy in phrasing, supple touch, and intelligent sensitivity, creating an inapproachable beauty. His interpretations of Mendelssohn’s Songs without Words and Chopin’s Ballade op. 47, Nocturne in D flat, and Ballade op. 52 were particularly noted for their elegance and eloquence.
