Nikolay Lugansky at the Aspen Music Festival
The concert programme embraced the Aeriality piece by modern Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir, Sergei Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini and the Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky.
“Lugansky’s touch was, at the same time, lyrical and crisply dramatic, dripping with urgency, responding to each turn of the music with new tone and fresh colors. Conductor James Gaffigan matched the pianist in zeal, getting animated playing from the orchestra without getting in Lugansky’s way”, mentioned Harvey Steiman, Special to The Aspen Times.
